Anti-doping

The Anti-Doping Convention of the Council of Europe was adopted in 1989. The Additional Protocol, which came into effect on 1 April 2004, provides for the mutual recognition of doping controls and allows the investigators of the signatory states to carry out unannounced checks in another country. In addition, it facilitates the cooperation of states with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). In order to monitor adherence to the provisions of the Convention, it has appointed a group of observers known as the Monitoring Group. This group and a number of sub-groups with experts also have the task of monitoring developments in the field of doping. To ensure coordination between the Council of Europe and WADA, the Ad-Hoc European Committee for the World Anti-Doping Agency (CAHAMA) was established.
