A warm welcome to the website of the Federal Ministry for the Civil Service and Sport

As Vice-Chancellor of the Republic of Austria, I consider it my primary task to work for the interests of the Austrian people. My aim is to create the right conditions for everyone to be able to live what they consider to be a successful life. That is my overriding goal in all areas of politics.

As Minister for the Civil Service, my objective is to breathe life into the federal government's commitment to a comprehensive reform of the public administration. Reform measures are necessary within all areas of public administration. We need to simplify decision-making structures and increase transparency, because only in this way it can be guaranteed that public funding really reaches the concerned people rather than drying up in outdated structures. As the Minister for the Civil Service, I stand for a far-reaching modernization of civil service law. A modern and permeable civil service law for all new entrants, with more attractive initial salaries and consistent life-time earnings, can be an incentive to attract mobile, well-trained staff who are well equipped for the future.

It is a particular honor for me to represent Austria as Minister of Sport. Sport policy is a matter close to my heart because success in top-level sports does not only increase people’s identification with their country, but it also motivates countless individuals to lead a sporting and therefore healthier life. Studies confirm that due to its positive influence on health, every euro which is invested in sports has a fivefold effect on the national economy. To be able to exploit this enormous potential and to safeguard it on the long term, we must create enthusiasm for exercise, particularly among our children and young people. That is the starting point for a healthy life and a prerequisite for us to be able to describe ourselves as a proud sporting nation in the future. I therefore wish to make even more outstanding success possible with a thorough strategy covering fields ranging from the promotion of young talent to professional sport and involving performance and results-based sports subsidies.
